Getting Started
How do I set up at my house?
We are excited to be able to offer quality learning experiences from the comfort of your own home.
Setting up is important. Firstly we need good lighting, an uninterrupted space for you to learn and shut down all other internet-heavy programs if possible (Netflix needs to sleep too!).
For EARLY CHILDHOOD students: We need to see your face, hands and you need room to move! We would also like your percussion set out and nearby along with your favourite soft toy and a scarf.
For KEYBOARD CLASS students: We need to see your face, hands and you also need room to move. We also need to be able to see your hands on your keyboard.
For PRIVATE students we just need to see you face and BOTH hands on the instrument.
Which program do I need?
We have partnered with RingCentral, which uses a Zoom platform to offer advanced features and a more stable platform.
Please download the free app here:
There is no need for you to sign on – you are able to access your lesson just by clicking the unique link we will provide you.
How do we connect?
You will be sent a recurring unique link. Once it’s time for your lesson simply click that link and you will be connected to the waiting room for your teacher.
You also have the option of adding your lessons to your calendar app, which we highly recommend. This will then prompt you to click through when it’s time.
Sometimes you may receive a message that you need to wait for your host – this just means your teacher is nearly ready to connect – start warming up!
Optimised Learning
Important Settings
Switch on Gallery View – that way you can see everyone in the class.
On laptop/desktop – click the grid icon in top right corner.
On a phone or tablet – swipe one finger to the right.Use the Mute function often
Your microphone will pick up the backing track which will cause interference. When your teacher is playing a backing track, it is best to mute your microphone to keep things sounding clear.
On laptop/desktop – click the Microphone Icon with the word “Mute” below in the bottom left corner.
On a phone or tablet – first tapping the screen to show your controls and then tapping the Microphone Icon with the word “Audio” below in the bottom left corner.Getting good sound
Bluetooth speakers or headphones are a great way to improve the sound you hear on your end.
Mute your microphone when not needed – simple hand gestures are a great way to ask a question.
Try to keep your space quiet so that sound mostly comes from your lesson
Other features
“Ring Central” is a powerful version of “Zoom”, so use it to your learning advantage:
Chat use the chat function to give your teacher a message, either privately or within the group
Share documents Like a copy of your homework sheet, music or anything else that could help
Record sections of your lesson so that you can view it later on
